The Minotaur

The Minotaur is a retelling of the Greek myth about a half man / half bull who is imprisoned in a labyrinth by King Minos.
The film is made from 35mm slides found on eBay, each with a drawing scratched into the surface. Employing 2,500 drawings, The Minotaur took 10 months to make—having gone through several early forms including as a computer game and a clumsy animation made solely from mosaics. Music written and performed by Stephen Crowe.
Stephen Crowe is an artist and composer. He’s exhibited at Tate Britain, The National Portrait Gallery, The Courtauld and Nottingham Contemporary. He’s written and directed chamber operas, made experimental films and has been invited to discuss his work at institutions including Oxford University, NYU and Harvard. In his heyday Stephen sang in a heavy metal Barbra Streisand cover band.
an active dying

an active dying is an experimental film that utilizes film’s position as a dying medium to explore what dying is. I came to the conclusion that there is an active state of dying and an inactive one. That active state is like a crescendo of ever increasing importance, and change. It's a dying star, creating a supernova, blowing you up from the inside. If you survive, you still feel the pressure of the star inside you, you aren't able to ignore it as you did before you knew of its precarious nature. An active dying recreates this experience with film texture, colour and flicker.
Jinian Raine Harwig is an emerging artist primarily focusing in video, digital and craft. She is fascinated with the evolution of the digital and how it can be harnessed in the continually evolving landscape of the art world. Jinian suffers from a chronic illness which much of her art reflects as she often explores feelings of helplessness, rage and despair that come from a body under constant siege. She is excited to push herself and her creations as she continues to create.
Pepper

Told through athletes in moments of focus, Pepper examines the self, homeopathy and the pressure of time passing. The first film of Goes Electric, a new series of experimental documentaries about reality and pseudoscience, Pepper centres on the conflict between the demands of performance and the realities of the mind. Constructed from hand‑painted and electrocuted black‑and‑white 16mm film, the project is produced through Autocolour, a self-developed colour film process using only black-and-white chemistry and ink to produce colour images. Each frame is rotoscoped and combined across three passes of 16mm film, creating a controlled, saturated image that anchors the film’s material approach.
Daniel McIntyre is a celluloid‑based artist whose work examines memory, identity and the material construction of film images. His practice combines hand‑processing, found footage and film chemistry, developing new analogue colour film processes that extend the possibilities of 16mm.
McIntyre holds an MFA from York University and has exhibited internationally at venues including Oberhausen Kurzfilmtage, National Gallery of Art, Cinémathèque québécoise, British Film Institute, Istanbul Modern and Museum of the Moving Image. His recent work includes Autocolour, a novel analogue colour film process, and ongoing experimentation with organic chemistry and animation.

Appropriated from the classic Terry Toon animation, we watch events unfold of a lethargic hunter under a tree, beaten with a rolling pin multiple times by his wife for his laziness. Is this character invincible? Are they subject only to the idea of pain but not actually experiencing it? What is pain in the world of animation? Witness the breakdown of both the image and pain vs the suspension of disbelief in this tongue-in-cheek portrayal of violence in classic cartoons.
Dave Johnson’s practice involves experimentation with new, expired and found footage on emulsion-based media and extends to constructing DIY sound devices to create soundtracks for his works. His films have screened at festivals and galleries internationally. Johnson has been an instructor at post secondary institutions and led workshops for artist-run centres and online. He is a member of Lightproof Film Collective in Ottawa and Raw Stock! Film Collective in Victoria.

The wellness universe evaluates the spiritual mechanics of the pain-body as it searches for answers.
Gabi Rudin is a teaching artist and filmmaker living in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She is interested in the ways we cope with being a body in a system.
Their films search for synergy and mystical significance in a secular, material world susceptible to loneliness and apathy. Through mixing archival sound and image, celluloid and video, their films consider both the patterns and subversions of intergenerational belief systems.

Shon Kim is a filmmaker and visual artist, born in Seoul, Korea. He holds a BA in Law from Hanyang University, BFA transfer in Film and Video from School of the Art Institute of Chicago, MFA in Experimental Animation from CalArts and PhD in Animation Theory from Chung-Ang University. He lives and works in New York.

Find a competitor or at least fight against a pole. It's hard to get started but it's otherwise difficult to stop. Even with your back against the mat. Never mind. You have to stand up and go further. You will now have to fight against yourself."
Transforming Olympic wrestling and pole vaulting Soviet films from the 1980s into expressive, painterly imagery, the film appears as a film practitioner's decathlon.
Charles-André Coderre lives and works in Montreal. He makes films and works on 16mm live projections for film and music performances. Since 2017, he has co-organized, with Michael Bardier (Heavy Trip), the OK LÀ! music and expanded cinema series in Verdun (Canada).

La necesidad y el deseo [Need and Desire]

A gesture of erasure. A spell. If you lift the emulsion from a photograph, destroy its surface, transplant it onto a new body, does the memory it carried survive? Need and Desire originates from this question, and from the poetic belief that making a film can alter reality. The cinematic act becomes incantation: a process that destroys and reconstructs simultaneously. Still memories become an “emulsional” landscape. Need and Desire is a cameraless handmade film exploring the materiality of emulsion through instant photographs lifted and transplanted onto a Super 8 polyester base of recycled film scraps.
Francesca Svampa is an Italian-born filmmaker based in Barcelona. Her practice revolves around handmade analogue cinema, amateur filmmaking and first-person cinema, where the process itself becomes a form of inquiry. She holds a Master’s degree in Essay Film from Escuela Internacional de Cine y Televisión in Cuba, and has a background in Economics, Performing Arts and Music. Her films have screened internationally at festivals such as Athens International Film + Video, Bellaria Film Festival, Alcances, Engauge, DOC Buenos Aires and WOEFF.

Utilizing “glitch” as a portal into hidden worlds, nocturne explores the metaphors of nothingness embedded in darkness. It suggests that the indeterminate qualities of the unknown can provide revelations of wonder rather than existential dread, and that we can move through the unknown while also carrying it with us.
Zoë LeBrun is an emerging artist practicing on Treaty 1 Territory in Winnipeg MB. They earned their BFA (Hons.) at the School of Art, University of Manitoba. Conceptually, LeBrun’s work revolves around perception, temporality and existentialism which are emphasized by durational mediums that embody metaphors of lived experience.
Interwoven Intervals

A material hybrid of film and textile, as the intermediary device of a laser printer transcribes weaving patterns onto strips of 16mm clear leader, connecting the material process of handmade films with hand-crafted textile production. Pattern drafts are the graphical score for weaving—grids of light and dark representing the over and under of weft threads between the warps. The printer strains to align the image, as powdered toner smudges and fibres peel away like stray threads. The graphic repetition of grids, lines and squares assert a structural form that is fragile and vulnerable to erasure. In the archeological record, textiles are often lost to time. Here, a new form emerges—grids of ink and plastic, flickering projected light and dark.
Laura Kraning is an experimental filmmaker whose work explores liminal spaces at the intersection of nature and machine. In recent films, she deconstructs the material textures of landscape, engages with machinic interventions in image making and meshes the handmade processes of film and textile. Her work has screened widely at international film festivals and venues, such as New York Film Festival, Oberhausen International Short Film Festival, Edinburgh International Film Festival, International Film Festival Rotterdam, London Film Festival, Ann Arbor Film Festival, Visions du Réel and the National Gallery of Art, among others. Laura currently resides in New York, where she is an Associate Professor in the Department of Media Study at University of Buffalo.

Flim Flam is a visual and acoustic reflection about perception, deception, truth and the medium of film itself. Between visibility and irritation, structure and dissolution, a space arises for one’s own vision. A film that not only wants to be viewed but also experienced.
Siegfried Fruhauf is an Austrian avant garde filmmaker and multimedia artist. He lives and works in Vienna and Heiligenberg. In his work, Fruhauf explores the perception of cinematographic movement through the exposure and structural montage of individual film frames and photographs.
Arrangements for Robotic Arm

Arrangements for Robotic Arm is a series of looping animations composed through repeated acts of computational output, robot-actuated drawing and sequencing. Each segment resolves seamlessly into itself and creates a perfect loop without a fixed beginning or end. Here, repetition functions as both process and subject: every animation begins as a software program whose code is written to run a motion sequence before being brought back to a “zero frame” which enables both the software program and its visual output to repeat in perpetuity. The series approaches repetition as a condition which unfolds in time. Meaning emerges through this consistent and sustained return to an initial form before starting once more.
Dave Mawer is a media artist and Assistant Professor of Art and Design at Buffalo State University, Buffalo, New York. His work explores bridges between digital and analogue arts, and the ways that computation can be used as a medium for poetic expression. Through computation-derived generative systems, drawing, animation and print-based processes, he investigates visual repetition, variation and emergence as both aesthetic and conceptual concerns.

After completing a degree in film studies in Rome University and a diploma in cinematography, Chiara Caterina attended a post-degree in Le Fresnoy – Studio National des Arts Contemporains in France. Her film Avant la nuit was awarded with the first prize at Festival Cinema Zero in Trento and selected among others at European Media Art Festival in Osnabrueck, Hamburg International Short Film Festival, Berwick Film and Media Art Festival, Videoformes International Festival in Clermont-Ferrand, Kasseler Dok und Video Fest. Her documentary Il mondo o niente was selected among others at Festival dei Popoli and Festival du cinéma de Brive. Her film Enchantment premiered at International Critic’s Week at Venice Film Festival. Lucid Room was selected for the International Critic's Week in Venice. Objet d'énigme premiered at IFFR in 2026.
